Ply Boarding
The Professional Base for Tiles, LVT & Vinyl Over Timber Floors
Ply boarding (or plywood overlay) is the process of laying sheets of high-quality plywood over an existing timber or suspended floor to create a stable, solid, flex-free surface ready for hard floor coverings. It's the industry-standard — and manufacturer-required — method for preparing timber subfloors before tiling, LVT, vinyl or engineered wood. Skipping this step is the single biggest cause of tile cracking and floor covering failure in properties with timber subfloors.
We use FSC-certified tongue and groove plywood — 6mm for LVT, vinyl and carpet, 12mm for ceramic and porcelain tiles. Boards are laid in a staggered brick-bond pattern to eliminate continuous joints, screw-fixed at close centres right to the edges, and sanded at the joints to remove any lips between sheets. The result is a surface that doesn't move — eliminating the flex that causes grout to crack, tiles to lift and vinyl to bubble. We also combine ply boarding with a thin skim of self levelling compound where the floor is not flat, giving you both stability and level in one preparation visit.

Screeding for Underfloor Heating
Specialist UFH Encapsulation for Maximum Heat Performance
Underfloor heating systems require specialist screeding to perform correctly. The screed must fully encapsulate the heating pipes or cables without voids, air pockets or under-depth areas — any of which will cause cold spots, uneven heat distribution and in worst cases pipe damage. We work with all UFH system types and ensure the correct screed mix and depth for your specific system.
Liquid (anhydrite) screed is our preferred choice for UFH encapsulation — it flows around pipes without the need for hand compaction, eliminating voids completely. We pressure-test all systems before screeding commences and again after completion. Commissioning advice is provided for the correct screed drying and heating ramp-up process to prevent surface cracking.
